Kayaking

I was tagged by the lovely Lara for an 8 things meme. I'm going to address my 8 things in several posts I think.
The first thing - I don't like water. I love the beach. I love the ocean. I love the lake. I love the river. I don't like water. Water is scary. Water goes up my nose. Here's another weird thing (#2) there is something weird with my sinuses in that I can't close them off. I can't close them and go under water. I can't close them and drink quickly (read; take shots properly). If I go underwater without plugging my nose, I have to breath out - which means I don't have much time to get very far. lol
So, taking these weird things into consideration - it should shock you that I decided to try kayaking. You know, being out in a little boat that could very well tip over and not give me enough time to grab both my nose and my life jacket. But, I thought I'd be adventurous and try it.

I started out VERY STIFF. I was afraid to move. I didn't want to fall over. But then I learned to turn and to go faster. And we found some friends!

Mark had made us sandwiches for lunch, so he pulled the crust off one to feed to these guys. They both kept getting really close to the boats - and then some other ducks came over and mama ran them off. Baby thought that running them off looked fun, so he tried it with some other ducks...and he got into a scuffle with one of them...until mama came to his rescue. They were too cute.

We beached and ate some lunch.

Then we floated around. Mark was very relaxed.

And I had fun!

We're going again with B&K this weekend! (this time we'll remember to bring bread for the ducks!)

I LOVE kayaking! (And I'm not a water fan either.)

That sounds like fun! I would like to try it but the whole being zipped into a boat thing scares the crap out of me.

Be careful with those ducks swimming so closely.

Haven't you heard of dutch itch?

I want to kayak! I have heard that it is really hard work, though.

I wish AS would make me a sandwich, like, EVER.

I can't plug my nose either and can't do shots. Weird.

I went kayaking for the very first time on our honeymoon and loved it, although it did make my weak little arms sore afterwards. Perhaps I can just blame that on the ocean current.

Look at you! Firstly, LOVE the polka-dot halter. Secondly, I love that you tried kayaking the same week I tried canoing for the first time! ::hugs::

That looks like so much fun! I've never kayaked before, but I would definitely give it a try. It looks like you guys had a great time!
