This weekend wasn't all that thrilling. I can't remember most of it. I think Mark worked a lot. yes! he did! he worked on friday night and went fishing on saturday. I think I slept. a lot.
I like sleep.
On Sunday, Flutter and I went to a new church. We call it Huggy Church. (the guy giving us our programs gave us hugs - but he gave hugs to everyone so it wasn't tooooo creepy.) AND we actually LOVED this church. It was big enough so that we didn't stick out like "hey! look! new girls!" and it was small enough that people seemed to know each other.
The music was fabulous and contemporary (the singer looked like Aiden from John and Kate plus 8 - only older, obviously) The Senior Pastor was a great speaker. and the sermon was fabulous. He had a way of speaking that was almost like a comedian. Like, he said something funny and kept a straight face. I really liked him. They kept the tithing till the very end which I thought was interesting. overall this church is winning in the race by a mile.
After church we stopped for lunch and then I took a nice long nap. Mark and I went on a double date with B&K to Benihana for dinner. (the 20th was also our anniversary and Benihana is where we had our first date 3 years+ ago) Dinner was really fun. Mark and I really like hanging out with B&K. He and K have gotten to be pretty good friends and I met B a frillion years ago - in third grade. They are good people. And their puppy is just toooo darling.
Overall it was a nice weekend.

You Make Me Smile!
I got this today yesterday from Flutter!

And now I get to pass it on (that is, if y'all are still reading....you're there? right?)

Can I tell you just how glad I am that the weekend is here? It's really rough having friends that like to do stuff because I've been super busy all week. I haven't done hardly any laundry and the house definitely needs some straightening. (let's not talk about the mail that is building up on the counter either!)
Luckily, the first part of the weekend will be pretty darn boring. I've got nothing planned tonight or tomorrow. So cleaning and relaxing and hopefully finishing my latest book I Feel Bad About My Neck (I'm halway through) and maybe even start a new one.
I'm going to go back to scary church on Easter morning - because Flutter will be out of town and at least I'll know someone (if they are at the early service). I figure that since it's an Easter production and they know random folks will show up - it will be more traditional. (keep your fingers crossed). Afterward, we have a big family picnic with Mark's extended family (read: out of the 60ish people who were there, I knew about 6 - Mark's immediate family and then one woman I met at Weight Watchers. lol)
Afterward, we're going to Mark's mom and stepdad's for dinner. Should be a nice way to end a fairly relaxing and fun weekend.
Enjoy your Easter!

For the love...for showing me how to cool off a teen romance.
Lindsey for being my twin and also for using Jesus as an excuse to plan her wedding flowers. The Bloggess for being the ultimate stalker and finding me no matter where I may roam.
B. Good for working just as hard as I do every day.Flutterbyshutter for being the best work BFF EVER. I've never met anyone who gave into my hairbrain schemes so easily.

Sacramento Gets Hicktastic!
Good news, y'all! Nicole didn't hack us up. Everyone is alive and well.

No boys allowed - but Emily did bring weiners.

Tequila and a rousing game of spoons.

A seedy bar.

And an after party with pesto pizza.
First, we went to the Old City Cemetery - you know, just for fun. (and so she'd know where to bury me, if she did, in fact, just come to kill me)
A Mani-pedi party!

Nicole is totally funny and cool and lovely (I totally envy her green eyes). She not even remotely tragic. :P And we (well, I) had so much fun.
AND even Clyde approved!

I've Been Validated!
The beautiful Aly presented me with this!

And now, I get to award it to FIVE others! Yeah!
These girls totally rock (and the rest of you rock too - I think a lot of you already received this honor!)
Nicole P. of Hicktastic fame - My blogging BFF and fellow lollipop-head wannabe. She's amazing and she's brave (I mean, packing up and starting a new life? With corn? And cows? BRAVE!)
Marianne of My Left Nerve - She's hilarious! And she's pretty! and also, her blog is centered around her cats! We're like, soulmates.
Lindsey of Randy's Revelations - Lindsey is like my long lost blog twin. We heart the same things and loathe the same things. She even sends "snail mail" cards! I heart her.
Tracy of A Horrible Warning - One of the few bloggers that I know as a REAL GIRL. hehe. She's a great friend and WAY FUN. Besides, I can always say I knew her when.
JSauce of Gimme My Tiara - She's mysterious. She's hysterical! She has a potty-mouth! What's not to love!
You girls rock (all of you!) Go out and share the lurve!

There Is No Mystery
I remember the days before Mark and I were dating. The days when there was still a little mystery. We were both on our best behavior, and we could go back to our respective homes and be as weird as we wanted. He could enjoy his dorky computer games and I could pursue my reality tv obsession. Don't judge.
As I was cleaning up the house tonight, and starting to get ready for bed, I thought about how fleeting the mystery has been since we moved in together. Not only am I sharing my weigh-in numbers with him (ack!) but there's the face masks, teeth whitening trays on the counter, and various other beauty routines that no one should have to witness.
There is my collection of Babysitter's club books (all of 'em! woot!) and my NEED to read them while I eat. (I like to read while I eat, but not anything that I need to actually concentrate on...so the Babysitter's Club and Judy Blume books are required). I also have a VAST collection of self-help books. I haven't read but maybe 3 of them. Maybe that's why I'm still insane. ::sigh::
I bring this up because I had to show you what I bought this weekend.
Yup, it's the book from when Britney and Lynne Spears were still pals. I figured it would be a collector's item...and also, it was only $1.99. Woot!
The Babysitter's books reminds me of a conversation that I had with Miss Sassy the other day. We were discussing the necessity of knowing where your friends stand on the "who is your favorite New Kid on the Block" question. I believe it is necessary for me to know the following things about you - so play along in the comments or blog about it if you must. ;)
1) Did you read the Babysitter's club books? Who was your favorite sitter? Your least favorite?
2) Did you read the Sweet Valley books? (I loved the twins, but notsomuch the high school ones) Who did you most relate to Elizabeth or Jessica?
3) Any other favorites?
Have fun!

Fascination
Mad TV has a character named Stuart that I just ADORE. The skit is always hilarious and he's so, uh, creepy looking. I think he's fabulous. He's a man who is supposed to be a little boy...a little boy that is always getting into some sort of situation that requires him to repeat "what mama always says."
In one sketch, he is kidnapped. He was lured away by a woman who told him he could see chickens. He begged and begged to see the chickens because, "Chickens fascinate me."
That is how I feel about lesbians. Not the scary 400 pound, mustard-stained wifebeater wearing ones that we saw at the bar making out on St. Patrick's Day. And not the pretty ones who you would never be able to tell they are lesbians. I'm fascinated by the ones who wear the flock of seagulls hairdo.
Now, before anyone gets too excited, I'm not interested in being a lesbian (hear that Lindsey! Stop sending me those pervy emails! LOL) I think I'm fascinated with the middle of the road, not lipstick, not butchy lesbian because it's such a fine line they walk. One flannel shirt and it's all over for them. They've lost their mystique.
The only reason I thought of this is because there is a woman in my office who is obviously not into boys. She's got great (lesbian) hair and wears the weirdest stuff. She's not conventionally attractive, but I can see where there is something about her that attracts attention. And it got me thinking that I have known quite a few women just like her. My old boss, a woman from bowling (speaking of flock of seagulls).
I'm not sure where my flirtatious lesbian karaoke dj comes into the equation though...she had non-lesbian hair. lol
I think I thought about all this because I was thinking about karaoke...and I was thinking about something a gay (guy) friend said. "Straight women love me, straight men hate me, and the gays think I'm an enigma." It's then that I realized, straight women (mostly) like me, straight men like my rack, and the gays LOVE me.

Thank you all for your happy thoughts. Mark and I were able to go and visit grandma yesterday and she's in pretty good spirits (though drugs will often do that to you). I think Mark is feeling a little better and will probably go see her again tonight. Thanks again for being such great friends!

Camping!
Whew! We made it back! And with minimal injury, and LOTS of dirt. Woot!
We packed the truck up on Friday morning and headed out to Gerle Creek. We got all set up and then we waited for the rest of our peeps. The rest of the weekend was a blur. There was an abundance of food and beverage (wee!) and s'mores and swimming and EXTREME wading. The guys fished and bonded over the proper way to cook a tri tip. And OMG does food taste better outside!
Here is a myriad of photos, in no particular order, because frankly, I didn't get nearly enough sleep this weekend and I'm feeling particularly lazy tonight. All I really want now is a pedicure. :)

Campin'
Sorry, guys. I've totally left you with these lame celebrity gossip posts because I am LAZY. My excuses go like this:
1) I'm superstitious (sort of) and don't want to talk about something that I know I'll talk about if I blog too much, and then it won't happen and that will suck. So give me another day or two on that one.
2) I've actually been working. I was all proud because on Monday I worked A LOT. Which means this: "I didn't do much till 9 a.m. At 9, I worked straight through till 12:15 and then went 'oh shit! it's lunch time!' Then I got back from lunch and worked from 1:00 to 4:00." Nevermind that my actual hours are 7 to 4:30. It was close.
3) I'm making lists. We're going camping this weekend and the lists abound. We're trading lists between the 5 of us. We're dividing. We have yet to conquer. But the lists are coming together.
I'm really excited to be getting away this weekend with the girls (and a couple boys) It will be the first time we've all camped together and we have big plans for playing in the water and hiking. Not to mention the 2 page list of food that we NEED.
So, alcohol and s'mores are almost packed and then hopefully (fingers crossed) I will have some exciting photos and some interesting stories.

This One's For The Girls
I have tried writing this first sentence several times. While doing my run today (again, on the treadmill at the gym - the wind has been crazy!) I was thinking about my friends. Making a sweeping general THANK YOU to all of you - my bloggy friends. As I was running I hit a point where I thought, I can walk...I'll just slow down and walk. And I thought, if I were blogging right now, my girls wouldn't let me stop. They think I can do it. And I did! So thanks!
Today was a really good friendship day. When I got home I got a cute card in the mail from one of you - my (not so) sneaky little blogger friends. It totally put a smile on my face - because geezus, could that card have been more appropriate? I think not!
AND earlier in the day, I was emailing back and forth with another friend. In one of her emails she complimented me on my ability to talk her down when she's stressed out. It was a really nice compliment. Because I know that she's done the same for me. It's good to know I can return the favor.
One of the amazing things about this friend is that we are soooo different, and yet soooo much alike. And while one moment we can be happy and the next we can be ready to stab someone in the neck. (or you know, wherever.) We have been very lucky in that we usually switch off - so one of us can talk the other down.
I've come to really value this person's opinions and advice. I envy her ability to accept change and to thrive in situations; you know, with just a little kicking and screaming. I'm really glad that I can count her as one of my closest friends (even if she is particularly far away).

"This One's For The Girls" - Martina McBride
This one's for all you girls about thirteen
High school canbe so rough, can be so mean
Hold onto, on to your innocence
Stand your ground when everyone's giving in
This one's for the girls
This is for all you girls about twenty-five
In a little apartment, just trying to get by
Living on, on dreams and spaghetti-o's
Wondering where you life is gonna go
This one's for the girls
Who've ever had a broken heart
Who've wished upon a shooting star
You're beautiful the way you are
This one's for the girls
Who love without holding back
Who dream with everything they have
All around the world
This one's for the girls
This is for all you girls about forty-two
Tossing pennies into the Fountain of Youth
Every laugh, laugh line on your face
Made you who you are today
